Perplexity export guide
Sync Perplexity Threads to Notion.
Build a searchable research database. AI Chat Backup parses Perplexity threads, formats complex list structures, retains source citations, and sends them directly to your Notion workspace.
Set up your Notion connection
- Install AI Chat Backup from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open the extension popup and click the settings gear (or right-click and go to Options).
- Under the Notion tab, select Authorize Notion.
- Grant permission to let the extension create the "AI Chats" page and databases.
Keep citations organized. Perplexity relies heavily on search citations. The extension automatically reformats inline citations (like [1], [2]) and lists their URLs at the bottom of the page, ensuring you don't lose the underlying sources when reading in Notion.
Sync a Perplexity thread
- Open the Perplexity thread on perplexity.ai.
- Wait for the AI response and search references to load completely.
- Open the AI Chat Backup popup or side panel.
- Click Sync to Notion.
- Keep the Perplexity tab open until the sync progress reaches 100%.
What is preserved in Notion
AI Chat Backup converts Perplexity's dynamic layouts into native Notion blocks. The sync includes:
- Thread Title (mapped to Notion page title).
- Platform name (tagged as "Perplexity").
- Original thread URL (mapped as the source link).
- Formatted answers, bold text, code blocks, lists, and tables.
- Citations and reference lists at the end of the transcript.
Troubleshooting Perplexity exports
- Incomplete threads: If a thread is long or still loading, scroll to the bottom of the page before clicking Sync to ensure Chrome has rendered all elements.
- Missing databases: If the sync fails with a database error, go to settings and select Reauthorize Notion to recreate or reconnect the template databases.
- Read the Notion Setup Guide for database schemas and custom workspace permissions.
