Notion sync guide
Sync a ChatGPT conversation to Notion.
AI Chat Backup creates an AI Chats page from its Notion template, then sends the current conversation to the connected workspace with its source URL, platform, and formatted content.
Authorize the AI Chats template
- Install AI Chat Backup and open its settings.
- Open the Notion section and select Authorize Notion.
- Sign in to the Notion account that owns the destination workspace.
- Select Use a template provided by the developer.
- Allow the extension to create the AI Chats page and return to the extension.
Sync the current conversation
- Open the ChatGPT conversation and wait for the response to finish loading.
- Open AI Chat Backup and confirm the Notion connected status.
- Select Sync to Notion.
- Keep the ChatGPT tab open until the progress reaches completion.
- Open the Chats database from extension settings or your Notion workspace.
What the export preserves
The extension converts the conversation into structured content and retains titles, prompts, responses, headings, lists, links, code blocks, and tables when ChatGPT exposes them. It also records the source URL and platform. A previously synced source is detected so the same chat is not added twice.
When Notion sync fails
- Confirm that the required Chats and Platforms databases still exist.
- Use Reauthorize Notion after changing workspaces or revoking access.
- Refresh ChatGPT if the response was still streaming.
- Allow the optional ChatGPT report-frame permission when exporting Deep Research.
- Check the troubleshooting guide for current platform issues.
Privacy considerations
Conversation content is sent to Notion when you choose Sync to Notion. Local Markdown export does not require a Notion connection. Review the destination workspace before saving sensitive material, and read the privacy policy for complete data-handling details.
